Catholic Explained exists to make the Catholic faith easier to understand and easier to defend. We are not a group of academic theologians or professional scholars. Instead, we are a group of deeply committed Catholics who simply have a love for the Gospel and the teachings of the Church. Our goal is to break down complex topics about Catholicism into clear, direct explanations so everyday Catholics can better understand their faith and confidently respond to common challenges.
Catholic Explained was founded by Kevin Harrington, a Catholic convert who experienced many of these challenges personally. After converting, Kevin often faced criticism and difficult questions about Catholic teachings. During those conversations he realized something important — many Catholics want to defend their faith, but they often struggle to explain it clearly. That realization sparked the idea for Catholic Explained: a place where the faith could be simplified, clarified, and defended using Scripture, Church history, and common sense.
Our mission is simple: to help Catholics understand what the Church actually teaches and to address some of the most common misunderstandings about Catholicism. Through articles, videos, and discussions, we tackle topics that frequently come up in conversations between Catholics and Protestants, helping believers speak about their faith with clarity and confidence.
The Catholic Explained logo reflects this mission. At the center is the Cross, representing Christ and the foundation of the Christian faith. Surrounding it is a circle of colors symbolizing the many parts of Catholic teaching — Scripture, tradition, history, theology, and culture — all coming together in unity. Catholic Explained exists to connect those pieces and help people see the full picture of the Catholic faith.
